My babies are growing so fast! With the cold snap we had this week I had to put L4 in “long pants” again and oh! her long pants aren’t long anymore, they’re high water pants. Mama, the scissors, serger, iron, and sewing machine had at it and cranked out 3 new pair of cordoroy pants, using the full length version of her chicken pants that I made last spring. Of course she’s grown since last May. . . so when I had her try first pair of pants on to fit the elastic waist I was horrified to discover that they just fit where I would want them to once hemmed. That’s right, they weren’t hemmed yet! So I put to action my serger’s rolled hem capability, had to stuff the wooly nylon through a tiny hole for threading, and was off again. L4 helped choose what color thread to do each hem in and she was very pleased with the results. I don’t have pictures of her in them, but at least they’re ready to wear now and she approved.
Yes, I do realize how wrinkled the grey cords are–any suggestions for ironing without crushing it? Feel free to “oooh” and “ahhh” over the rolled hem. I did.
I’m going to be in search of thrifted and clearance fabrics to make the kids more cold weather clothes. I don’t know why I’m so caught off guard here as both kids have grown several inches in the past year, again. I’ll just sit back an be happy that they both still like to wear what I make for them. That holiday sewing just might have to wait. . .

I am so impressed that you can just turn those out…I remember something about ironing corduroy on a towel (so the bumpy side of the corduroy is facing down on the towel. If they are small like that, maybe between two towels??

Tara, making kids’ elastic waistband pants is one of the easiest clothing sewing projects. If you have a sewing machine, you could get a pattern and make a pair of them without much cursing.
On a random note, L1 said he’d like a pair of L4’s pants. It was a nice compliment.
I do have a sewing machine, and have been starting to sew a bit more…maybe I should try that. thanks for the encouragement.
[...] ones a bit bigger, and those for my nephew a bit smaller. L4’s are the same pattern as her cold weather cords. And I plan on finishing up a matching pair for myself like these here by the end of the [...]
