First–Happy 2009 to all of you!
The first few days of January always hold moments of calm for me, like I’m in the eye of a hurricane. I’ve just come down from making/gifting/celebrating the holiday season and all that it entails. Soon school will start again for all of us (though I get another week past the other three) and that always brings a whirl of activity after a break. So here I am, sitting in the calm. It’s a good time for me to reflect on what I’d like to work on and experience in the coming year. In no particular order, here are some things:
- Continue to work toward a decluttered house. This is particularly poignant in my mind right now after the holiday whirl and the new “things” in our home now.
- Improve my garden/grow more and do so more successfully. The snow is so deep outside, but I have a Fedco seed catalog calling my name. I have a date with it sometime this weekend, I hope.
- Keep the wellness of my family and myself in the forefront–through physical and mental activities.
- Keep working on my struggle with guilt/thinking I’m not doing enough as a mother, wife, friend, teacher, environmentalist, feminist, crafter, and whatever other hats I wear in my life.
- Continue to grow connections in my community, both virtual and physical.
- Create more for my Etsy shop that stays in line with my vision for it.
- Knit–finish up some WIPs that have been languishing (L1’s sweater, for instance. . .)
- Figure out what else I can do to simplify my life to lead an even crunchier life. Continue to seek ways to do so that don’t necessarily cost exorbitant amounts of money.
- Figure out a way to do something special with L1 for our 10th wedding anniversary–it’s this summer!
- Get together with my best female buds to celebrate my 10-year anniversary.
- Meditate more–because I love when I take the time to do it–but don’t do it just to say, “I meditated.”
- Think more before I speak!
- Engage my students, help them see beyond the letter grade and the books and the “money” out there.
- Work on just letting things be, including myself.
- Enjoy my children more!
- Spend more time in the outdoors that I profess to love.
- Spend less procrastination time on the computer.
Phew, that’s enough, right? What are your goals/resolutions/reminders for 2009?
To kick off 2009, I’ll let you all bask in the glory of the matchy-matchiness of my daughter and I, and our beautiful feet, too!

First – Carrie just noticed that L4 has a thread that needs cutting on her right pant leg. Yeah, she just whispered that in my ear… I don’t know what she is talking about.
Now… your goals (not resolutions). Girl, you got a TON!! I am going to work on helping you with the guilt one if I can. I will strive to push you to create more without worry of wasting. Creation is good… you gotta try it more.
HAPPY NEW YEAR L FAMILY!! We missed ya!!
Happy New Year! Love the feet.
And feel free to speak your mind to me any time. No guilt required!
