I did it! I finally managed to split wood. I still seem to be closing my eyes some of the time as you can see below. But heck, I’ll take it. We have several face cord of wood that need to be split this summer. I should get plenty of practice at it. And with a larger chopping block it was much nicer.
Comments from the peanut gallery (L1 & L3). An L1 example:
(after hearing me say I wasn’t striking the same place twice) She’s like lightning.
And an L3 example:
Be a strong Mama, be a real Mama!
Heaps of helpfulness coming from them, I tell you. L4 was blissfully asleep during the entire process. Future plans for improvement:
- Wearing pants that fit–if I didn’t have to keep hiking them up, I’d probably get through the log faster
- Ignoring the peanut gallery unless they ask if they may provide some advice.
- Daylight–I keep attempting this at dusk!!
- Splitting wood that has not been sitting out in the deluge of rain we’ve been getting. When the maul struck you could see the water go flying.
And now I’m going back to what my hands know best–knitting needles.

You the man, Mama! … wait, is that not appropriate?
Looks great!!
Awesome! You rock!!
