After days of warmer temperatures, this morning we awoke to a cold, clear day with a hard frost on the ground.  We’ve had frost already, but without the protective cover of the leaves on the trees, it ws far spred in our yard this morning. The cold makes for a happy, happy dog!

Earlier in the week I reflected upon a date several weeks past.  I’ve been thinking about what I’ve been up to this week, as the last precious days of summer vacation trickle on past.  The answer is typical: knitting and gardening/yard work.  We did have a seasonal diversion as well this past week and I’ll [...]

Yesterday was a day of so many random projects.  A day that needed, but was without, a list.  After the laundry was hung on the line we gravitated toward staying outdoors–L1 to chopping wood, me to the garden.  Compost was turned, used, and the designated dump pile begun anew.  My poor neglected lavender bed was [...]

Poetry in Flowers

Slowly they emerge
Bringing color promises
Warm days are to come

These photos inspired me to haiku this morning. We have a lovely children’s book called Haiku Hike that was written by 4th graders after they learned about haiku poetry.  Spring bulbs are just like poetry, lovely and elusive, bringing sweet joy in their wake.  We’ve been [...]

Every year they pop up through the ground, tender and green, but strong.  And every year I mercilessly rip them out, roots and all, before they grow too large.  They root everywhere!  Not just in the gardens, but ALL OVER the lawn, in pots, between the cracks on our stone pathways.  Even though the emergence [...]
