We are so happy to be home!! After unloading yesterday afternoon we went to work getting groceries, doing laundry and other necessary tasks. We even made some blueberry jam.
This morning I spent some time in the garden because it needed tending and because I missed it. Some hungry (but evil!!) animal ate every single one of my beautiful broccoli plants while I was gone. They were all getting crowns when I left and I am horribly disappointed by this. I planted some seeds for more today in a container, hoping that I can get a fall harvest at this point. (Last year we harvested the last of our broccoli the first weekend of December.) I also planted some new lettuce seeds as the other lettuce had bolted badly before we left and some animal had eaten it, too (probably the same one!).
In the actual garden the bolted arugula was ripped out and composted, the bolted part of the bok choy and the sorrel cut off, all the beds were weeded and fertilized (organic fertilizer!!), and some tomato plants were tied up, while others had some structures put up around them (ladders from cucumbers last year). The sugar baby water melon was also tied up some more, and there are some wee little melons getting started. 🙂 Finally, I picked a basket full of snap and snow peas, a hand full of grape tomatoes, and three zucchinis.
Tomorrow we hope to go to a pick your own raspberries farm L1 found today and then make some triple berry (strawberry, blueberry, raspberry) jam. We were able to pick about 12.5 pounds of blueberries while in NH finishing off our vacation. (BTW– Inkwench and AG, we think that stay may have been among the most relaxing part of our vacation!)
I’m so happy to be back to blogging as well. Feel free, of course, to let me know how much you missed me while I was gone. <grin>
