Today we took at day trip to one of NYS’s many parks, Stony Brook. I remember going there to camp as a child with my nuclear family and several of my dad’s siblings’ families. I remembered it as a fun trip with beautiful water scenes. I’ve been wanting to go back to it this summer. We were not disappointed. For $7 (plus gas to get there, about ~1 hour away) we had a blast. We picnicked, played on a fabulous playground, went for a beautiful walk in the gorge, and played in the (68 degree!) water. L1 posted some pictures from today on flickr a little while ago. We’re all tired, but happy (and 3 of us have summer colds, bleh). Actually, the kiddos are in bed and I’m sure we’ll be there soon, too.
After the park we drove to Corning, NY to have dinner with my dad. He is working in Corning during the week and commuting home on the weekends. While he is loving his new job, he is not loving hotel living or being away from home. It was great to visit with him and show him the pictures from today.
Summer is winding down quickly for us, and it feels like we’re trying to fit many things in to the little time we have left. (L1 actually starts a 6 credit class, to go through next March, next Tuesday! But it’s free, he gets professional develop credit for it, and it will help him go to a new pay bracket, so we really can’t complain.) Just to give you a taste, since we have returned from Lake George Monday evening we’ve done touch up painting in the kitchen, painted one of our dining room walls (primer, 2 top coats), painted our bedroom closet doors and gotten the begining pieces of wood for our tree house. No wonder we’re tired! I hope you all have at least one last hurrah planned for summer, if not many. And for those of you that are local, I hope I’ll be seeing you as part of the last golden days of summer.
