My friend KAB and I share a special date–our birthdays are each other’s half birthdays. To commemorate, we have a tradition of taking each other out for birthdays to yummy places like Simply Crepes or AJA Noodle Company. Today was our day to celebrate (though not yet my b-day!) and, as usual, KAB spoiled me! First, I have a new sock knitting book coming my way in September. I’m so lucky to have such a talented artist as a friend. She made me a beautiful key chain and pendant out of lampwork glass, each with the Om symbol on them. Lookie!:
KAB is always evolving, trying new techniques and mediums to go with her lampwork and wirework. One of her newest experiments is with resin and she has had some beautiful results. One of my favorite things about her newest pieces is that she is recycling with them! She is making these gorgeous bottle cap pendants (vintage caps, reusing!) with pieces of wire and beads in them (reusing from other projects!). Check some of them out here.
I’ve spent the rest of the day playing with the kids (crafty things I got at Michael’s at the beginning of summer), helping out with the treehouse construction (beginning pics on flickr!), and crafting myself. I’ve knitted on my step-mom’s second sock a bit and have begun to make myself the sun hat from Simple Sewing. Though I read that it came out big, I kept it the original size. I may be cutting it down before final construction, but won’t be able to tell this evening. I was booted from the sewing machine because the kids had to go to bed! Hopefully I’ll have some fun pictures of it tomorrow. In the morning I’m going to a get-together of the Flower City Knitters group from Ravelry. 🙂 Then I’ll be back to the sewing machine, if I haven’t finished the hat before I go(!!).
