Well, at least for me on both counts. Yesterday I finished making myself a dress for a family wedding this weekend. It has two patterned fabrics, and there is pink in both! If you’ve been reading for awhile, you know pink is not my color. Without further ado, I present the Wild and Pink Dress:
- Pattern: Simplicity 3777 (I made another version of it last summer for a wedding, seen here.)
- Fabric: from Amy Butler’s Midwest Modern collection
- Notes: I am so glad I got my fabric at my local fabric shop–the friendly shop-owner steered me away from putting a zipper in the back, which I was happy about as I didn’t have to buy one or put it in the dress. She also suggested I use this really lovely muslin (nice thread count) for the lining, which was much nicer to sew with than the lining fabric I would have otherwise purchased (think satin).
And the shrug? Also made by me. 🙂 Stats on it:
- Pattern: Shrug This, by Toni Kayser Weiner from One Skein Wonders
- Yarn: Rowan Kid Classic
- Needles: US 10.5
Total cost for materials for dress and shrug: ~$35. (If only I had a push-up bra and shoes that matched… *sigh*) Ability to avoid malls and shopping for something to fit me? Priceless.
