Though we didn’t start our journey of energy tracking until February 12th of 2008, we’re going to keep our data categorized by year. (You can check the units of measurement on previous energy update posts!) Thus, I present our energy use in 2008 (with water and gas starting in March):
Notes for December: The increase in electricity is due to two major things for which we can account, extra holiday baking and the holiday lights on the tree. Even with a timer on the lights, they sucked up quite a lot of energy. I know, I know, we could get LED lights, but our tree has them on it. As for the gas usage, I’m thrilled that we stayed under 4 for our daily average, especially since our area broke a record for snow fall, held since the 1800s!
We think the single biggest decrease in our electricity consumption has come from the almost elimination of the use of our dryer. Starting in April, when we were able to start hanging our laundry on the line again for the year, you’ll see that’s when we had a huge drop in average daily consumption. Then there was the hungry dehumidifier over the summer months to bump our consumption up again.
Oh, 2009, what will be in store for us and our energy consumption during your time?
