:: Flashback to yesterday afternoon:: Mama arrives home from work in the middle of an epic water battle between kids, Daddy, & Jasper. I scoot around the action as best I can and stay away from the drenching that ensued. Later on I notice L3’s sopping wet sandals on the floor, halfheartedly ask him to move them, and continue on with the evening.
::Flashback to 8am this morning:: “Mama!! I can’t wear my Keen’s! One of them is still wet!” In a voice calmer than I feel, “Bring it up to the bathroom.” And so, like my friend Tara, I ended up using a hairdryer to help my boy get ready for his first day of school. (Note: it was a much less traumatizing experience than for poor T, I think.) I even used it on his hair a little because there was also this request this morning, “Mama, will you please help me spike my hair today?”
Now I sit here realizing my baby boy, my Bug, my FOURTH GRADER–he just left for school. He was excited and less nervous than I’ve ever seen him for the first day. We’re all hoping for great things this year, like the last. Next up, getting my KINDERGARTENER ready for her first day, too.
