I Voted Today!

Proud of My Sticker
And regardless of your political affiliation, I hope you do too! For me, raising my children with an awareness of the awesome duty and importance of voting is so important.  Like my mother before me, I take my children to the polls with me and into the voting booth.

At the Booth
Today they helped pull the handle back at the end to register my vote.
We Voted!
If you leave a comment telling me you’ve voted (I’ll take your word for it here!) you’ll get a chance to win one of my bulk food bags, size 15″ x 11″.  Tell me by Thursday at 9pm EST, and I’ll announce a winner on Friday.

Last year L1 and I set up a permanent work space for me in the upstairs hallway.  I was thrilled–no more lugging sewing machine out of the attic and trying to remember where I had shoved fabric (though, admittedly, there wasn’t too much).  As I mentioned awhile back, L1 made me a new workspace this year for my birthday.  Before it was built I had to disassemble my other space, then paint the walls and trim.  It must have been one of my fastest painting project!  Here is the new layout (this is in the same space as the other):

New Craft Space 001 New Craft Space 002

The middle of the desk is a nice big area for me to cut and assemble projects. No more lower back pain as I scooted around on the floor trying to cut things! I think of it as the “diner counter” because it lifts up on hinges so that we can still get into our attic. My sewing machine is on one end and the serger on the other, along with my laptop. Eventually L1 is going to make a cutout space so that sewing machine is flush with the table/desk surface. He built the desk so that my wrists could be flat, easing my carpal tunnel symptoms. The whole area just makes me happy and calm and fired up to create.

At the end of May I signed up for a two-month pledge at Wardrobe Refashion. I didn’t get a confirmation, and there wasn’t a list of new people, so I haven’t done anything on here about it. I have been following the rules, however, as you can see from all of the crafting that I’ve been doing. Now my name has appeared, so I need to get to work on fulfilling the rest of the rules. Here is the pledge:

I pledge that I shall abstain from the purchase of “new” manufactured items of clothing, for the period of 2 months. I pledge that I shall refashion, renovate, recycle preloved items for myself with my own hands in fabric, yarn or other medium for the term of my contract. I pledge that I will share the love and post a photo of my refashioned, renovoated, recylcled, crafted or created item of clothing on the Wardrobe Refashion blog, so that others may share the joy that thy thriftyness brings! Signed Me 🙂 .

I still don’t have an invite to post on that blog, so this one will have to suffice!

Pictures of the matching PJs I made for the kids for MV ; they picked out the fabric (added 7/19):

Life is Good

Friday’s happenings:

  • playing with L4
  • sewing (with L4 and for her)
  • perusing books at B & N
  • haircut (love getting my hair washed and cut, such a luxury!)
  • picnic at Highland Park for dinner, the roaming around afterward with my family

L1 took lots of pictures, hopefully to be posted later.
