After initial despair that all the free dirt from the town was gone this year, we spent a happy day digging and shoveling dirt yesterday. But oh! I was sore and tired last night. It was worth it as all the garden beds are now ready to receive seeds, seedlings and the new drip irrigation system. The L house is very, very excited about our new gardening season.
I’ll leave you with my stylin’ outfit from yesterday. We’re going to be out and about again today, doing more gardening, going to the park to play, and generally trying to enjoy the good weather. I promise to get back to all of the comments people have left, soon. I’ve loved reading them! But the sun beckons and I head the call.
Your town gives out free dirt?! That’s a good idea!
That picture of the empty black raised bed is pure bliss! What is to grow in there?
I am so glad you were able to get some leaf mulch!! YOO HOO!!! I am going to come and steal your veggies since the new house won’t have a garden this year!!
I call it dirt, but it is composted leaves. The town picks them up and composts them for a couple of years and then brings tons and tons, literally, to the town hall. People are crazy for it around here.
As for what I’ll be putting in that bed, I think it will have broccoli, kale, bok choy, and maybe some other things. I have been lax on doing my garden map for this year, but at least the seedlings are all going strong.
And Ms KAB–as I said this morning, hopefully I’ll have some extra plants to pass your way so that you can have yourself some home grown veggies in your new home. 🙂
